Lateral Cut Groove  Biography

John has been D.J.ing since he was 16 years of age. While still at school he held down his first residency at Propaganda in Sligo City playing alongside top UK and European DJs. From this he built up the necessary DJing skills and style to enter the Irish Mixing Championship back in 2000, which he won. To add to this achievement he also won two more competitions that same year. One, was to open the main stage at Creamfields Ireland (a very memorable gig indeed) and the other was to play a set at Shines 5th Birthday bash in November of that year. He also set up his own club night with his brother called Chunk-A-Funk in Letterkenny which ran for over five years. As well as this he played regularly at big club nights such as Shine in Belfast, Lush in Portrush, Tripod in Dublin and Deep Fried Funk in Derry.

His interest in music found him furthering his education and pursuing an houours degree in Music Technology at Leeds Met University in England which greatly enhanced his engineering and production skills. Working with bands and DJs while at University led to his involvement in putting on the ‘Leeds Met Live’ event in 2008 which he also performed at. Since then he has been working hard on improving his own sounds, compositions and techniques while also teaching Music Technology and Production to his students at his very own studio (The Vault).

As a producer he has already hit the headlines with his music been featured in mixes and charts including Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, Darren Emmerson, Carl Cox, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, Jamie Jones, Jerome Sydenham, Ben Klock, Joel Mull, Pan Pot, Derek Howell, Mario Fischetti, Silvio Conchon to name but a few. His debut single ‘Little San’ which was released on Peter Presta’s Digital Jaxx label went down a storm in the summer of 2008, been played everywhere from Ibiza to Buenos Aires and was also featured on Hernan Cattaneo’s ‘Sequential’ radio show that same year. After a break of nearly two years John has got back into the studio where he has remixed Danny Teneglia and Celeda’s famous ‘Be Yourself’, which eventually got it’s release on Twisted US in February of this year. The remix was to create an avalanche of works to come. Seeing labels from around the globe getting in touch for a slice of his unique remixing skills.

He also produces deeper darker house music under the guise ‘Kronecker Delta’ with another top Irish producer Darren Doherty. Their first track ‘Tribe of Sunshine’ had a massive interest from labels around the world and was quickly snapped up by SexiBeats and was resigned to Suro Recordings. The two have since remixed tracks for the label. They have also remixed tracks for ‘Maurizio Ruggiero and Danyelino. Their remix of ‘African Rebel’ which got massive support from DJ’s such as Nic Fanciulli and Sander Klinenberg. They have recently released ‘Step Up’ on the German based label ‘Waldliebe Familien’ and has been pushed by DJ’s such as Jamie Jones, Gruia, Blackmode and Marcelo Demarco.

With a string of releases on a number of labels such as Particles, Stripped, Baires, Babylon, Electronic Tree, Balkan Connection and Liquid Grooves to name but a few. John has found himself very busy in the studio as his quality productions start to rack up. As well as this he has found the time to put DJ mixes together for Proton Radio as he was nominated to be their ‘Featured Artist’ of the week back in June of this year. As well as this he has also put mixes together for Particles’ very own show which goes out every month. He has recently been a guest on his Italian friend, Andrea Cassino’s 6Th Auditorium show which is broadcast through Frisky Radio. Speaking of Frisky Radio, they also got him to be part of their ‘Frisky Loves series’ which features fresh, up and coming DJ’s and producers from around the world. On Saturday, May 25th 2013 the show came to Ireland, where John proudly accepted the invitation to be part of the ‘Frisky Loves Ireland’ team which saw him perform a one hour set on air on the night. His sets on both ‘6Th Auditorium’ and ‘Frisky Loves Ireland’ went down so well with fans and with the people at Frisky that he was asked back to be their Artist Of The Week.

His DJ sets have been featured on numerous radio stations around the globe including 2FM, Frisky, Proton, Galaxy, Ibiza Global Radio and Ministry of Sound Radio which have led him to setting up his very own podcast. The unique ‘Deeper Sides’ show goes out once a month which expresses his wide range in electronic music, mixing a variety of tastes ranging from deep soulful house through to uplifting techno.

As a DJ his sound is truly his own. His style which could be described as a selection of deep chunky progressive-tech house is enough to get anyones head bopping so if you haven’t already experienced this exciting new producer, Now is the time.
